Define the prerequisites on which the reports will be based |
These include:
- Balance component categories: These are optional and can be defined so that you can eventually group the Balance components into logical groups
- Balance components: Data you put together, retrieved from existing Balance types and/or Budgets, and is the basis of the entire Profitability Analysis Tool.
Note: The components you create depend on what kind of report you want to create. They can be anything from a single balance type to a calculation (formula) using Balance types, to a fixed value.
- Item profitability codes: If you want to identify Net contribution, you must classify your items according to how much profit they generate.
- Customer profitability codes: If you want to identify Net contribution, you must classify your customers according to how much profit they generate.

Build the report |
This involves defining all the parameters for the report you want to eventually create, and includes:
- Basic data per report
- The calculation (if any) that will be used when creating the report.
- The Selection of data you want to include in the report, including the periods you want to analyse.
- The Sorting sequence of the data. Note: You have to initially define the sorting, but can later go back and add more keys to sort on, etc.
- The column information
- Defining the column and component from/for which the profitability values will be calculated.

Create and View the report |
You can create one specific report or several simultaneously. Once the report(s) has been created, you can analyse the output from a number of different angles, all accessible from various locations and include:
- Viewing details
- Drilling down to subordinate information and periods
- Viewing the output in different graphical formats
- Filtering data per column
- Viewing critical information (via colour codes) if you defined visual settings in your report settings.

Perform periodical tasks |
These include:
- Editing cost settings. This is something that is done during company installation, but you have the option to update these settings anytime you so desire. You define the pricing for the costs (e.g., Sales order cost – how much you charge per sales order, Stock rate – how much it costs for tied-up capital, etc).
- Updating periodical balance types
- Deleting old reports
